How do I submit the charity paperwork if I'm filing online?

If your donation is over $500, you should ask your charity for a 1098-C which details the charitues tax id#, VIN#, the valuation of the car etc. The charity reports the valuation to the IRS, you should atleast make sure what you report on your tax return matches what they report.

Even if you do not get this form, make sure you have some other paperwork at the time you donated your car. You are required to report the automobile donation on your tax return as non-cash charitable donation.

You are not required to send the paperwork in to the irs - but you should keep it handy in case they come back with questions.

Turbotax does walk you through the deduction for a car. and its very detailed, just follow the easy answer steps and you should be okay.
